S02E09b Bonus Episode Part Two - Smashing Pumpkins 'Gish'
Wednesday Oct 09, 2019
Wednesday Oct 09, 2019
Following straight on from last week's episode this is the second half of the bonus podcast we recorded to discuss a couple of albums that were released while Eurythmics Greatest Hits was number one and were pretty special to us. This week sees us talk about the Smashing Pumpkins' debut album 'Gish' which was released on May 28th 1991 and made a big impact on at least one of your hosts at the time.
Before that though we cover the singles chart in this period and manage to squeeze in opinions on Definition Of Sound, Rebel MC and the long-forgotten Five Thirty among myriad others.
All the songs we chat about are on our companion playlist for your listening-along pleasure and details of how to get in touch or follow us on social media are at our website on www.pclpodcast.com

We know, we know - we're not supposed to do episodes on Greatest Hits or compilations but the Eurythmics album was number one for ten weeks in total and during that time two of our very favourite albums were released so we thought we'd take the chance to bend the rules and put out a couple of bonus episodes to wax lyrical about them. This week you'll hear us talking about Eurythmics (albeit quite briefly) and then you'll hear us going on at length about one of Dave's favourite albums, Primus's 'Sailing The Seas Of Cheese'. He chooses five tracks from it as a sampler which we have a listen to and discuss. We also have a talk about loads of other really great albums that came out in this ten week period of 1991 - it's genuinely an exciting time for music so please forgive us as we get excited about things that we love.
Part two will come out next week and then it normal service will be resumed after that. The playlist for this week's episode can be found here and head to our website www.pclpodcast.com for loads of other playlists, links to social media and terrible, terrible photoshop jokes in the gallery. Cheers!

S02E08 R.E.M. 'Out Of Time'

HOLD THE PHONE. Has 1991 finally given us what could actually be described as a 'classic album'? Well, both Dave and Krister remember it fondly and it's certainly touted as a classic but does it stand up to scrutiny nearly 30 years later? We shall see.
The conversation takes us down the usual strange pathways making mention of the likes of Chesney Hawkes and Megadeth and we also see Dave making a comparison between one of the REM songs and a certain Kenny Loggins tune - is he right or just mental? You decide.
The full companion Spotify playlist with all the REM songs and many of the other tunes we chat about is available to listen to here. The rest of our playlists and various nonsense (and links to our social media) are, as ever, at www.pclpodcast.comThe podcasts we mentioned this week are available to check out at the following links, they really are excellent and you should definitely check them out (tell them we sent you so we get some credit for being cool):

S02E07 The Farm 'Spartacus'
Wednesday Sep 18, 2019
Wednesday Sep 18, 2019
Hey, remember The Farm? Krister has fond memories of Groovy Train and Dave remembers liking All Together Now so surely that must mean they're going to find loads of other songs to enjoy on this one? We shall see.
We do get the chance to think about 'Hey Matthew' by Karel Fialka again though, as well as Living Colour, Massive Attack and Gang Starr among others.
Check out this episode's companion playlist with all of the album tracks and as many of the other ones we talk about as we could find on Spotify here - https://tinyurl.com/PCLs02e07playlist

S02E06 Chris Rea 'Auberge'
Wednesday Sep 11, 2019
Wednesday Sep 11, 2019
Do you like slide guitar? Do you like racing cars? Do you like a man who sounds like he smokes 60 a day, every day? Then have we got a treat for you! Next in line for our listening pleasure is 'Auberge' by Chris Rea which was number one in March 1991 for one week only. However, not to get all clickbaity on you but what you hear in this week's episode may surprise you. It certainly surprised us.
Alongside Mr Rea we discuss the likes of Ice Cube, The Eagles and FishMonkeyMan. Don't pretend you don't remember FishMonkeyMan. Come on now.
We do also have to apologise for playing what is probably one of the worst songs of 1991, if not the whole decade - sometimes being for charity just isn't enough of an excuse.
You can find our playlist with this week's album and as many other songs that we talk about on the episode as we could get on there at https://tinyurl.com/PCLs02e06playlist.Head over to our website www.pclpodcast.com for loads of stupid photos with our faces on them and links to all of our social media.

S02E05 Oleta Adams 'Circle Of One'
Wednesday Sep 04, 2019
Wednesday Sep 04, 2019
Remember Oleta Adams, from back in 1991? Of course not. Remember her song though, the big hit? No? It was called 'Get Here'? There you go, now you're on board. Well it turns out she has an album that got to number one for one week in February 1991 so we had to listen to the whole thing.
But as well as chatting about smooth soul jazz we managed to fit in some stuff about Tears For Fears, The Clash and the wonder of saxophone solos.
You can hear all of the songs we talk about on our companion Spotify playlist here - https://tinyurl.com/PCLs02e05playlist
And as always head over to www.pclpodcast.com for links to our various social media sites and other playlists to keep you entertained.

S02E04 Queen 'Innuendo'
Wednesday Aug 28, 2019
Wednesday Aug 28, 2019
Next up in the number one albums of 1991 is Queen's swansong album 'Innuendo' which appears to be lauded by quite a few critics as one of their classics. Will we agree? Both Dave and Krister are relative novices when it comes to Queen so will this be their entry point to a whole big back catalogue?
In the midst of the Queen talk we also touch upon such subjects as Morrissey being a twat, the Butthole Surfers and songs titled 'Delilah'. All songs talked about in the podcast can be heard in our companion playlist - https://tinyurl.com/PCLs02e04playlist

S02E03 Jesus Jones 'Doubt'
Wednesday Aug 21, 2019
Wednesday Aug 21, 2019
Welcome to episode three of our new season and enjoy taking a step back in terms of audio quality for one week because we recorded this one out of sequence, before we upgraded our microphones. Hurray! But ignore that if you can as we are joined by our first ever GUEST on the podcast, Si Sharp, to delve into the guts of Jesus Jones' album 'Doubt' from February 1991. Si is an expert on many musical topics and genres but has a special place in his heart for this particular sort of indie stuff, it's what he grew up on and loved dearly. But are Dave and Krister going to be fans as well? Dave is notoriously adverse to "indie" stuff while Krister is usually all over that shit. Will this revisit to the album be a success? Along the way we also get the chance to chat about Soho, EMF, Rick Astley and Krister's granny. Sorry about this, gran.
Be sure to check out www.pclpodcast.com for more info and links to our various social media and go to Beat Rehab to read more of Si's opinions and lists. As usual we've made a Spotify playlist of all the songs we talk about for you to listen to here - https://tinyurl.com/PCLs02e03playlist
